L'invention concerne de nouveaux fluorophores et leur utilisation comme marqueurs fluorescents pour des polymères utilisés dans le traitement des eaux usées. Les fluorophores sont des sels d'amine quaternaire qui peuvent être utilisés pour synthétiser des polymères marqués fluorescents qui sont stables à différents pH, qui ont une solubilité dans l'eau significative, et qui peuvent être fluorescents à des longueurs d'onde supérieures à 550 nm.
