When the radio communication device determines that the communication received on the primary channel comprises critical information, the radio communication device switches to the talk-back channel to respond to communications received on the non-primary channel. L'invention concerne un procédé pour faire fonctionner un dispositif de communication radio en mode veille multiple. Le dispositif de communication radio reçoit des communications sur un canal primaire et au moins un canal non primaire. Ensuite, un canal de réponse est activé pour répondre aux communications reçues sur le canal primaire. Le dispositif de communication radio détermine si une activité de transmission est en cours, en réponse à une communication reçue sur le canal non primaire. Le dispositif de communication radio détermine également si la transmission reçue sur le canal non primaire contient des informations critiques quand aucune activité de transmission n'est détectée pendant un intervalle prédéfini depuis que la transmission a été reçue sur le canal non primaire. Quand le dispositif de communication radio détermine que la transmission reçue sur le canal primaire contient des informations critiques, le dispositif de communication radio bascule vers le canal de réponse pour répondre à des communications reçues sur le canal non primaire.
