The present invention relates to a remote control system and to an electronic key and to a method, particularly for automatically locking and/or unlocking at least a door to an automobile vehicle and/or for starting an engine of an automobile vehicle, said remote control system comprising a vehicle module intended to be installed inside the vehicle, said remote control system also comprising a portable module intended to be carried by a user of the remote control system, wherein the remote control system is capable of determining the distance between the vehicle module and the portable module via both a first radiofrequency signal transmitted by an antenna paired with the vehicle module and a second radiofrequency signal transmitted by an antenna paired with the portable module, wherein the portable module also comprises a means of measuring the position or the orientation of the portable module in relation to a gravitational field or in relation to a magnetic field.
