Des bactéries de réduction du fer et une substance contenant du manganèse devant être traitée sont mélangées dans une solution de traitement contenant des ions fer trivalents, les ions fer trivalents sont réduits en ions fer divalents au moyen des bactéries de réduction du fer, les ions manganèse sont lixiviés à partir de la substance traitée dans la solution de traitement mentionnée ci-dessus avec les ions de fer divalents comme agent réducteur, le lixiviat obtenu est soumis à une séparation solide-liquide, les ions manganèse contenus dans le liquide séparé sont rendus insolubles (solidifiés) principalement en tant qu'oxydes, et les oxydes de manganèse obtenus sont précipités, séparés et récupérés.
