description The present invention relates to the use of sterically-stabilised organic conducting polymeric nanoparticles as a contrast agent for biophotonic imaging, especially in optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging. Exposing biological tissue to said contrast agent (whether in vivo or in vitro) prior to OCT imaging significantly enhances the contrast of the resulting OCT images and allows for enhanced detection and diagnosis of clinical conditions, such as cancerous tumours.
