L'invention porte sur un procédé et un appareil pour cliver une fibre optique. Le procédé comprend le dénudage en fenêtre de la fibre optique à l'aide d'une source laser pour créer un dénudage en fenêtre. La fibre optique dénudée en fenêtre est ensuite rainurée à une position à l'intérieur du dénudage en fenêtre et une tension est appliquée à la fibre optique. La fibre optique clivée peut être chanfreinée par l'application d'une source de chaleur à la phase d'extrémité clivée.
