La présente invention concerne un moteur DPCE (Dual Piston Cycle Engine) utilisant un appareil à piston double, un premier cylindre accueillant un premier piston, un second cylindre, thermiquement isolé du premier cylindre, accueillant un second piston. Une soupape d'admission couplée au premier cylindre assure l'admission du mélange combustible dans le premier cylindre. Une soupape d'échappement couplée au second cylindre assure l'échappement des gaz depuis le second cylindre. Enfin, une soupape inter-étage reliant la chambre interne du premier cylindre à la chambre interne du second cylindre, est configurée pour minimiser l'espace mort entre les deux cylindres. Le premier piston n'effectue que les temps d'admission et de compression, le second n'effectuant que les temps de combustion et d'échappement.
