Grâce au système de navigation, la machine suit une limite de la zone, conserve en mémoire des informations décrivant le parcours de la machine contre la limite, une comparaison lui permettant ensuite de constater qu'elle est revenue en point de la zone où elle est déjà passée. A cet effet, le système de navigation considère la partie la plus récente du parcours de la machine, la compare aux informations décrivant une partie du parcours préalablement conservée dans la mémoire, et constate éventuellement que l'information de parcours récente et l'information de parcours préalablement conservée en mémoire sont sensiblement identiques.
