The inventive catalyst comprises nickel and lanthanum oxides applied to an aluminium-magnesium oxide carrier, in addition to zirconium dioxide at the following ratio between components, expressed in mass %: nickel oxide 3.7-16.0 lanthanum oxide 0.1-4.1 zirconium dioxide 0.1-2.2 the rest being aluminium carrier. The aluminium carrier is embodied in the form of a trifolium provided with three cylindrical holes having an equal wall thickness on the cross-section. The inventive method consists in producing synthesis gas by steam conversion of hydrocarbons at a temperature ranging from 750 to 950 DEG C in the presence of said catalyst. L'invention se rapporte aux catalyseurs destinés à la fabrication du gaz de synthèse par la conversion d'hydrocarbures en phase vapeur. L'invention permet de prolonger la durée du fonctionnement stable du catalyseur, d'augmenter son activité et d'accroître le degré d'utilisation du composant actif. Selon l'invention, on a développé un catalyseur comprenant des oxydes de nickel et de lanthane appliqués à un support en oxyde d'aluminium et de magnésium et comprenant en outre du dioxyde de zircone, avec la teneur suivante en composants, en % en poids: oxyde de nickel - 3,7-16,0; oxyde de lanthane - 0,1-4,1; dioxyde de zircone - 0,1-2,2; support en aluminium et magnésium - le reste. Le support en aluminium et magnésium a une forme trilobée avec des orifices cylindriques possédant des parois à section égale. Le procédé de l'invention consiste également à obtenir un gaz de synthèse par la conversion d'hydrocarbures en phase vapeur à une température de 750 DEG C à 950 DEG C en présence du catalyseur susmentionné.
