Le procédé consiste en une érosion par cavitation visant à former des creux sur la surface externe de l'article métallique, lequel subit également une corrosion chimique visant à attaquer la surface métallique sur laquelle des creux ont été formés. On parvient à réaliser des micro-creux à répartition sensiblement homogène sur l'article, de manière à donner le fini mat souhaité, sachant que, par ailleurs, la surface ainsi traitée se prête au scellage.
