In one aspect of this embodiment, the second portion is positioned proximate to a ceiling portion of an aircraft passenger cabin. A support member extends upwardly from the first portion and includes an upper region fixedly attached proximate to the second portion. In a further aspect of this embodiment, the support member is extendable and retractable along an operating axis to move the first portion up and down relative to the second portion to open and close the luggage bin.
