Zusammenfassung: | A method for the activation of polyethylene terephthalate materials such as tire yarns is provided whereby the adhesion of the material to an adhesive is enhanced. The material is activated by means of an electron beam to promote free radical formation, which free radicals are permitted to form carboxyl and hydroxyl functionalities under ambient conditions. Such functionalities improve the adhesion with a suitable adhesive such as an epoxy or isocyanate adhesive which is reactive to carboxyl or hydroxyl functionalities and which may be applied to the material before or after activation thereof. |
