A rubbery vulcanizable composition comprising a blend of (a) a material or synthetic rubber and (b) a hydrogenated essentially random copolymer having polymeric monomer units of (I) from 5 to 60% of styrene units, (2) more than 2% of conjugated diolefin units and (3) more than 10% of hydrogenated conjugated diolefin units. Polymerization and hydrogenation to form component (b) by conventional techniques is described. In the examples, partially hydrogenated styrene-butadiene copolymers are compounded with polybutadiene, natural rubber, styrene-butadiene copolymer, polyisoprene, natural rubber-styrene-butadiene copolymer, natural rubber-polybutadiene, and natural rubber - polybutadiene - styrene - butadiene copolymer.
