description | 1432689 Adhesives for laminating EASTMAN KODAK CO 10 Aug 1973 [15 Aug 1972] 37906/73 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] Laminates are prepared by using an adhesive composition comprising (a) 50-98%, based on the weight of the composition, of a copolyester of (i) a glycol component at least 80 mole per cent of which is 1,4-butanediol and (ii) an acid component at least 48 mole per cent of which is terephthalic acid and 5-40 mole per cent of which is a dimer acid, and (b) 2-50%, based on the weight of the composition, of a homo- or co-polymer of which at least 50% by weight of its units are derived from a monomer of the formula in which R is hydrogen or a C 1-4 alkyl group and R 1 is hydrogen, chlorine, phenyl or a C 1-4 alkyl group. Suitable co-monomers for copolymeric polymers (b) are listed. The adhesive may include additives, particularly fillers, pigments, viscosity reducing materials and glass cloth. Specified substrates are steel, iron, aluminium, chromium, copper, brass, bronze, nickel, zinc, titanium, tin, wood, glass, ceramic materials, paper, cardboard, fabrics and substrates coated with polyepoxide, epoxy-phenolic resin, melamine resin, phenolic resin, alkyd resin, vinyl resin or acrylic resin. The adhesive may be applied in molten form by spatula or by extrusion or as a film. The sheets are then clamped together and heated in a forced-air oven at 20- 50 C. |
