Zusammenfassung:	A tape handling apparatus for a machine which records data on magnetic tape wherein the tape is advanced by a drive capstan rotated by a driving belt which also drives a mechanism for backspacing the tape. To advance the tape a pinch roller is moved to engage the tape between itself and the drive capstan. To backspace the tape, clutch means drivingly connects the backspace mechanism with the driving belt.
