description 1305073 Moulding composition PARBWERKE HOECHST AG 7 Sept 1970 [5 Sept 1969] 42677/70 Heading C3R A thermoplastic moulding composition comprises (a) a linear saturated polyester of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and, optionally, up to 10 mol. per cent, calculated on the total amount of dicarboxylic acid, of an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid, and a saturated aliphatic or cycloaliphatic diol, (b) from 0À05 to 2% by weight, calculated on the amount of polyester, of an inert inorganic solid substance having a particle size of less than 5 Á and (c) from 0À02 to 8% by weight, calculated on the amount of polyester, of an alkali metal alkaryl sulphonate of the formula in which M is an alkali metal atom and R 1 and R 2 each represents a saturated or unsaturated straight-chain or branched hydrocarbyl radical having up to 18 carbon atoms, or one of R 1 and R 2 represents such a hydrocarbyl radical and the other is a hydrogen atom. Specified inert inorganic substances are glass powder, talcum, kaolin, magnesium oxide, antimony oxide, titanium dioxide, aluminium oxide and calcium carbonate, specified sulphonates are the sodium salts of the following sulphonic acids; p-toluene, p-cumene, 2,4-dimethylbenzene, o- or p-nbutylbenzene, o- or p-n-octylbenzene, o- or p-ndodecylbenzene and o- or p-isododecylbenzene. Copolymers of ethylene and vinyl acetate, ethylene and acrylic esters and butadiene and styrene may be added to the composition. Examples describe moulding compositions of polyethylene terephthalate with (1) talcum and sodium p-dodecyl sulphonate, (2) talcum and sodium p-tolueno sulphonate and (3) calciummagnesium-aluminium silicate and sodium pcumene sulphonate.
