description 1,174,881. Optical projection systems. W.S. MILLER. Feb.26, 1968 [March 6, 1967], No.9112/68. Heading G2J. An optical projection system intended for advertising purposes uses a high intensity light source 16 to illumine an object formed as an imagewise light absorptive coating 13 on a concave mirror condenser 15 which directs the light through a spherical objective lens 12 to form an image on a curved screen 10. Mirror 15 may be an ellipsoid having source 16 and lens 12 at the two foci, the mirror body being of conductive metal construction with cooling fins in a fan-driven air current. Lens 12 has a concentric quartz core to withstand the heat of the focused light from source 16 which may be a Xenon arc. In variations, a hemispherical concentric lens is used having a mirror coating extending over part or all of the planar face. The partial coating is used if light scattering coatings 13 are employed.
