description | 1,166,773. Making flexible tubes. V.D.O. TACHOMETER WERKE, ADOLF SCHINDLING G.m.b.H., and H. T. GOLDE G.m.b.H. 19 Jan., 1968 [2 Feb., 1967], No. 3016/68. Addition to 1,091,066. Heading B3A. [Also in Divisions B6 and F2] A method of producing a flexible protective tube for a shaft guided in the tube, the latter comprising a wire helix 4 and having internally a brush-like layer 3, comprises first applying a layer 2 of adhesive to the wire which is to form the helix, then applying the brush-like layer 3 consisting of a plurality of short fibres or flakes, e.g. of abrasion-resistant plastics material, on to the adhesive layer 3 by electrostatic flocking and, after the adhesive has set, shaping the fibre-coated wire to form the wire helix of the protective tube with a brush-like layer inside the tube. As shown, the wire 1 is of flattened cross-section and is coated with a brush-like layer 3 only on that side which is to form the inner face of the tube. The latter may be covered with a protective hose 5 of plastics material, which may contract slightly, as shown, between the turns of the wire. The protective tube can be used, e.g. for flexible drive shafts of tachometers. |
