description 955,579. Stoppers. LUBECAWERKE G.m.b.H. Feb. 20, 1962 [March 20, 1961], No. 6523/62. Heading B8T. A sealing ring 4 of rubber &c. is compressed between the edge 3 of a container 1 and the bent-over portion of its lid 2 on assembly of the lid, and one or more tongues 11 extend from the ring through a gap 13. On pulling a tongue, the part 8 of the ring tears and the part 7 is drawn through the gap thereby enabling the lid to be lifted from the can. In the modification of Fig. 4, the ring is stuck or shrunk on to the edge of the can and a sealing insert 19 is provided; in a further modification the edge of the can is hook-shaped and engages a groove in the ring. Alternatively, the sealing ring may be secured to the lid, e.g. by adhesive or by rolling over the edge of the lid, before the lid is formed into engagement with the can.
