Low flux density magnetic materials having a square hysteresis loop are specified by the formula Cr w , Mn x Ni y Fe z O 4 where w is between 0.4 and 1.2 x is between 0.7 and 1.6 y is between 0.1 and 0.4 z is between 0.6 and 1.3 and w+x+y+z=3 and have a flux density B not more than 400, a value Bu/Bs greater than 0.7, a coercive force of about 2 Oe and a switching constant of about 0.2 Oe. In preparation, appropriate quantities of the metal oxide powders are mixed, calcined at 900‹ C., pressed into cores, sintered at 1350-1400‹ C. in air, and refired in air at a lower temperature.
