description | 908,715. Pressure-sensitive adhesive tape. MINNESOTA MINING & MANUFACTURING CO. Aug. 17, 1959 [Aug. 22, 1958], No. 28073/59. Class 140. A pressure-sensitive adhesive masking tape consists of a semi-glassine wet creped paper backing made from highly beaten paper fibres and devoid of other components weighing more than 10% of the fibre weight; the paper weighing 100 to 150 pounds per 1000 square yards and having 20 to 60 crepe lines per lineal inch; the backing being coated on one side with a tacky pressure-sensitive adhesive having a defined sheer strength value of at least 100 minutes and a coating weight not exceeding approximately the paper backing weight; the adhesive tape having a lengthwise stretch of 20 to 30% and a tensile strength of at least 10 pounds per inch width, and being readily unwindable from the roll without impairment and removable from surfaces to which temporarily applied. The paper may contain up to 10% of a sizing agent, e.g. neoprene, " Bunen " rubber (Registered Trade Mark),urea- and melamine-formaldehyde, polyesters, sodium silicate and viscose. The adhesive which may be applied as an aqueous dispersion may contain crude rubber, polybutadiene, natural and synthetic rubber, and a tackifying resin, e.g. a polyterpene. |
