Zusammenfassung:	A method in a computing device includes: establishing an association with an base station; in response to establishing the association, transmitting one or more unencrypted messages to the base station using one or more data rates selected according to an optimization sequence; receiving, from the base station, one or more acknowledgements to the one or more unencrypted messages; based on the one or more acknowledgements, selecting an active data rate; and sending encrypted data to the base station using the active data rate.
