The device may include a sensor for detecting presence of the hazardous material. The sensor may comprise or be formed from a conductive polymer, a semi-conductive polymer or an electroactive polymer, the sensor being chemically reactive with the hazardous material to generate a change in electrical resistance in the sensor. The device may further include one or more conductive electrodes attached to the sensor configured to detect a change in resistance in the sensor, and a resistance measuring device electronically connected to the one or more electrodes for receiving data from the one or more electrodes and generating an output based on the data corresponding to an amount of hazardous material detected by the sensor in real-time.
