The transmission rate is controlled based on one or more control parameters. The control parameters may be generated based on comparing the configured values and the capability values. The configured values may represent allowable transmission characteristics of a network path provisioned between a transmitting and a receiving network device and the capability values may represent the transmission capabilities of the transmitting and the receiving network device.
