Sip based call setup

A method and system for status communication within a cellular telecommunications network, and especially a 3rd Generation (3G) mobile network, such as the new UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunication System) are provided. In the method information is communicated to a user terminal about abnormal condition occurring during an ongoing call in a cellular telecommunications network in which an element ( 404, 602 ) controlling the connection is separate from a system part providing transport of user data ( 401, 401 ). In this method, existence of an abnormal condition in the status of the connection is detected in a system port of the network providing transport of user data and forwarded to the element controlling the connection. This element then determines the state of the connection to the user terminal based on the received message, and subsequently forwards information about the state of the connection to the user.
