Significant advantages over prior art methods, particularly for metallic nanoparticles, are avoiding agglomeration, ease of application, and delivery to subsurface sites. Methods are provided which comprise selecting an appropriate environmental remediant and contacting a subsurface soil or water with the remediant; by applying the remediant in a composition with a carrier, wherein the remediant transits to the subsurface site.
