Штангообертач складається з храпового колеса з круговими зубами на його торці, упорного підшипника, ексцентрикового вала з робочою собачкою, з'єднаного з важелем і стопорної собачки. Додатково містить кулачковий механізм у вигляді гвинта і паза в робочій собачці, причому радіус паза рівний радіусу траєкторії переміщення центра кривизни зуба колеса.
