Zusammenfassung:Provided is an industrially advantageous method for obtaining zirconium tungsten phosphate that has a single phase as observed by x-ray diffraction and that is useful as a negative thermal expansion material. This production method for zirconium tungsten phosphate is characterized by the firing of a reaction precursor that is a mixture of a tungsten compound and an amorphous compound that includes phosphorous and zirconium. The reaction precursor has an infrared absorption peak at least within 950-1150 cm-1, and the maximum infrared absorption peak value in said range is preferably 1030 (±20) cm-1.
