Side wall for closing off the casting space of a plant for casting thin metal strip

The invention relates to a side wall (3) for closing off the casting space of a plant for casting thin metal strip between two moving cooled casting surfaces, comprising an active part (5) intended to be in contact with the liquid metal and to rub against the sides of the casting surfaces, a box (7) surrounding the said active part (5), a stand (8), means (9, 10) for applying the side wall (3) against the sides of the casting surfaces, which means are fastened to the stand (8) and to the box (7), and an inductor placed inside the box (7), the coil (11) of which is formed by the winding of an internally cooled tube made of conducting material which extends towards the rear of the side wall (3), passing through the box (7), in the form of two rigid branches (14, 15) and then of flexible conductors (16, 17) connected to a supply (18) of electricity and of coolant, characterized in that the said inductor includes screening means comprising a magnetic screen placed behind the said coil (11), such as a stack of ferrites (19), and an electrical screen, such as a cooled copper plate (23), placed behind the said magnetic screen and supporting it, and in that at least on sheath (27, 29) surrounds the said rigid branches (14, 15) and the said flexible conductors (16, 17) over at least part of their length.
