Zusammenfassung:The addn. of substances in powder form to a metal melt by the use of a gas and a tuyere located in the furnace lining, is made at a flow velocity of 0.04-0.6 kg/s (0.04-0.7 kg/s), and at a pressure of the gas carrier which exceeds the static pressure of the metal melt above the tuyere(s) by 1.8-4.0 times (1.8-2.4 times), and in which the ratio of powder to gas is 3-35 kg per 1 m3(3-5 kg/1m3). The equipment consists of a tube in sections, a feeder in the shape of a hollow cylinder, a pusher for feeding the tubes, and tube closures. Method avoids losses of the reagent and is more efficient as the powder addn. is made to the lower part of the melt, and fume formation as well as spatter is greatly reduced. Used for adding magnesium granules to a cast iron melt or Ca carbide, lime and calcined soda to a pig iron melt.
