description A method for controlling the process of electroslag remelting of consumable electrodes in a widen crystallizer consists in stabilizing the volume of the slag bath by way of dosed feeding of flux, in stabilizing the resistance of the slag bath in the interelectrode gap by way of regulation of the power fed to the slag bath and in stabilizing the metal bath level in the widen crystallizer by way of displacement of that cristallizer in relation to the cast ingot. The reciprocal displacement of the crystallizer and the cast ingot is so done that the ratio between the current through the wall of the crystallizer and the total melting current is kept constant. The device for implementing that method comprises a means (4) for dosed feeding of flux into the slag bath (5) and a drive (6) ensuring the reciprocal displacement of the crystallizer (7) and the cast ingot and connected to the input of a unit (9) of formation of steering influence. The device comprises as well a unit (10) for determining the ratio between the current through the wall of the crystallizer (7) and the total melting current. One of the inputs of the unit (10) is connected to a sensor (13) of the total melting current and another to a sensor (14) of the current through the wall of the crystallizer (7). The output of the unit (10) is connected to the input of a unit (17) comparing the values of the mentioned currents ratio with a pre-set value, its output being connected to the unit (9).
