description | 1506287 Carpets DYNAMIT NOBEL AG 22 May 1975 [1 June 1974] 22396/75 Heading A4S [Also in Division B5] A multi-layer structure having sound-damping characteristics which may be permanently deformed into the shape of the floor of a motor vehicle, comprises a top layer of textile material, and intermediate layer of synthetic resin containing a filler and imparting weight characteristics, not present in the other layers of the structure, to the structure and a flexible bottom layer formed of cross-linked polyethylene foam material having a weight per unit volume of 20-100 kg/m3. The top layer may have a pile and may be a carpet formed as a knitted or tufted fabric or a needle fleece. A layer of polyethylene powder may be inert sintered on to the back of the layer of textile material. The intermediate layer may consist of 85 wt. per cent of heavy spar (barium sulphate) and 15 wt. per cent of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer containing about 45 wt. per cent vinyl acetate. The layers may be bonded together by means of heat supplied by a flame, hot air, aheated wedge, a hot wire or infra-red heating. The layers may also be bonded together using adhesive the separate layers may be united with one another and shaped together in one working operation. Alternatively the layers may be bonded together to form a continuous structure from which individual portions can be cut to a predetermined size and shaped using heat, e. g. supplied in a circulating air furnace or by infra red field, and pressure, e. g. vacuum shaping or vacuum stretching. The underside of the foam plastics layer may be profiled to promote air-venting and drainage ducts by stamping in a warm state or cutting out in a cold state. |
