INSTRUMENT FOR LOCALISING TRIGGER AREAS OF OVERACTIVE GAG REFLEX IN ORAL CAVITY

FIELD: medicine.SUBSTANCE: invention aims at localising trigger areas of overactive gag reflex on the surface of oral mucosa (OM). The instrument consists of a handle, a body and a working unit. The instrument handle is a standard handle of a dental mirror; it represents a rod with an ergonomic section for hand fixation, a side facing the body and comprises an inner thread. The instrument body represents a metal rod made of medical stainless steel. It comprises an outer thread on both ends. The body instrument is 45 mm long. A curve of 135° is arranged in the middle portion of the instrument body at 25 mm from an attachment end to the handle. The working unit is drop-shaped and comprises the inner thread. The working unit is 18 mm long. A diameter of the narrowest portion of the drop is 7 mm, and the widest portion is 12 mm. The measuring element is rotary with 4 positions at a rotation pitch of 90°. All three components of the instrument are coupled together by means of the thread. The instrument held by the handle is placed into the oral cavity. The working unit touching different portions of the oral mucosa is used to specify a topography of the trigger areas of the overactive gag reflex. The touches shall be of medium pressure to simulate an impression taking process.
