There are declared a method, a composition, a kit and using selenium for treating hyperthyroidism of felines. The method involves feeding a feline with the composition containing approximately 0.1 to less than approximately 1 mg/kg of selenium at a dry basis in a combination with administering an antithyroid agent into the feline. The declared composition contains approximately 0.1 to less than approximately 1 mg/kg of selenium at a dry basis and a therapeutically effective amount of the antithyroid agent. The kit comprises the composition containing approximately 0.1 to less than approximately 1 mg/kg of selenium at a dry basis, the antithyroid agent, and a package insert.
