Zusammenfassung: | FIELD: physics. ^ SUBSTANCE: invention relates to plasma physics. The levitating quadrupole has a vacuum chamber and a cylindrical compartment linked to the vacuum chamber in its lower part, in which two ring patterns, each in form of a coil of superconducting material, are placed on a hoisting element and arranged coaxially at a distance from each other vertically. A solenoid is placed outside the cylindrical compartment coaxially with the coils, said solenoid being meant to generate magnetic flux which passes through the section of said coils. A cooling apparatus is meant to switch the coils into superconducting state and enable the coils to capture magnetic flux, and the power supply of the solenoid is meant to generate a magnetic field in the coils in superconducting state. Outside or inside the chamber, a coil of superconducting material is placed coaxially with both coils and with the vertical axis of the chamber, said coil of superconducting material being meant to generate a magnetic field needed to compensate for the gravitational action on two said cooled coils, compensate for their magnetic attraction and adjust the magnetic field of the quadrupole. There is a mechanism for moving the cooled coils from the compartment into the chamber when the solenoid is switched to a level where the plane which passes through said coil perpendicular to the vertical axis of the chamber lies between planes which pass through said coils perpendicular to the vertical axis of the chamber.
