description FIELD: atmospheric and fiber-optic communications engineering, possible use for building applied systems. ^ SUBSTANCE: in the method for processing binary coherent optical signals under conditions of spontaneous radiation noise and effect of hard radiation and in optical receiver for realization of method, binary coherent optical signal being received is photo-detected, observation spectrum is divided on S sub-intervals, on each of which number of photo-electrons is counted, which is used for calculating credibility ratio L, which is compared to zero threshold L0 and decision is taken in favor of "1", if L>=L0, or in favor of "0" in different case. During calculation of credibility L, evaluative values are used of parameters, characterizing distribution of a mixture of useful signal and noises, and parameters of generalized discontinuous interference distribution, which are altered depending on fluctuations of useful signal and noises. ^ EFFECT: increased interference resistance of binary symbols receipt under conditions of spontaneous radiation noise of semiconductor optical amplifier, gamma-noise, resulting from effect quanta of ionizing radiation have on material of photo-detector, and thermal noise of photo-detector. ^ 2 cl, 2 dwg
