description FIELD: reactor technology for radioisotope production. SUBSTANCE: method for producing molybdenum-99 radioisotope includes irradiation of special fuel assembly incorporating target in the form of solid layer of fissionable material, 5-7 mcm thick, applied to metal backing wherein fission fragments are formed under action of neutron irradiation, part of them escaping this layer and being implanted in screen disposed in direct proximity of target. Irradiation is conducted in the core of research or power reactor with thermal spectrum of neutrons. As soon as desired amount of molybdenum-99 has accumulated on screen, fuel assembly is removed from reactor, screen is conveyed to radiochemical treatment area for extracting target radioisotope, and backing carrying fissionable layer is reused many times as part of new fuel assembly. EFFECT: reduced amount of radioactive wastes in radioisotope production at high specific activity. 4 cl, 1 dwg
