description 591702 Disclosed is a test tape unit (10). The test tape unit (10) includes a flexible carrier tape (14) that can be wound forwards by a tape drive (16). A plurality of analytical test fields (32) for the application of body fluid are applied on the tape (14). Each test field (32) is located on an associated tape section along with a check field (50) that is separate from the test field (32). Each tape section has a plurality of position markers (48, 58) for different functional positions that are structured to each be individually identifiable as a measured quantity by means of a tape sensor (20). At least one position marker is a check position marker (48) assigned to the check field (50). The check position marker (48) is separate from the check field (50) and identifies a functional position at which the check field (50) can be scanned for a functional check by a measuring unit (18). The measuring unit (18) is also operable to measure the test field (32) when the tape section is in a different functional position.
