The corrosion inhibitors have the formula (I) where R is a hydrocarbyl or an acyl group having 14-24 carbon atoms, or the group R'OCH2CH2CH2 where R' is a hydrocarbyl group with 14-24 carbon atoms; X is hydrogen, C2H4OH or the group Y is hydrogen or C2H4OH and n is 0-3, with the proviso that at least one of the symbols X and Y is C2H4OH, at most one of the symbols X is n is at least one when R is an acyl group, and when R is a hydrocarbyl group or the group R'OCH2CH2CH2 at least one of the symbols X and Y is hydrogen.
