1297299 Triazolotriazinones BAYER AG 22 Dec 1970 [31 Dec 1969] 60837/70 Heading C2C Novel 1,2,3,7 - tetrahydro - (1,2,4) - triazolo- (3,2-c)(1,2,4)-triazinones-(7) of the formula wherein R 1 is a hydrogen atom or an optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl radical, each of R 2 and R 3 is a hydrogen atom or an optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl or aralkyl radical, or R 2 and R 3 together denote an alkylene radical of 4 to 7 carbon atoms which may carry one or more alkyl substituents, and R 4 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl or optionally substituted aryl radical, are prepared by reacting a 3,4-diamino-4,5-dihydro-1,2,4-triazinone- (5) of the formula with an oxo compound of the formula in the presence of a (C 1 -C 5 ) aliphatic carboxylic acid. The reaction is preferably carried out at a temperature of from 20‹ to 120‹ C. in the presence of a solvent. The novel compounds possess herbicidal activity. The 3,4 - diamino - 4,5 - dihydro - 1,2,4 - triazinones-(5) used as starting materials may be prepared either by cyclization of α-oxo-carboxylic acids with diaminoguanidines or by aminolysis of 4-amino-3-alkylmercapto-4,5-dihydro-1,2,4-triazinones-(5).
