These compositions comprise a hyaluronic acid derivative which forms hydrogels with precise rheological characteristics that make it ideal for filling the nucleus pulposus. La presente invención describe y reclama composiciones farmacéuticas en forma de hidrogel para usarlas en el tratamiento de la degeneración de los discos intervertebrales, en particular las formas de deshidratación y vaciado del nucleus pulposus conocidas como "enfermedad del disco negro"; estas composiciones comprenden un derivado de ácido hialurónico que forma hidrogeles con características reológicas precisas que los hacen ideales para rellenar el nucleus pulposus.
