Se proporciona un conector eléctrico subacuático de alta tensión que incluye un primer y segundo conectores que tienen cada uno un contacto positivo y un contacto negativo. El conector eléctrico incluye además un electrodo auxiliar hecho de un material conductor conectado eléctricamente al primer contacto positivo. Un circuito limitador de tensión conecta eléctricamente el electrodo auxiliar al contacto positivo. Se crea un camino de agua de alta resistencia entre el electrodo auxiliar y los contactos negativos cuando el primer y segundo conectores se acoplan mientras se sumergen en agua u otro entorno corrosivo.
