The inventive process has a catalyst with a potential application in the units for recovering Sulphur. The physical-chemical properties were compared to the fresh commercial catalyst in the SuperClaus reaction, obtaining an elemental Sulphur yield of up to 95% by weight compared to the sample obtained by the co-impregnation method. De acuerdo con la presente invención se ha desarrollado un procedimiento para la preparación de un catalizador y su particular procedimiento de secado y calcinado el cual presenta muy buen comportamiento catalítico con las propiedades fisicoquímicas para la oxidación selectiva; el cual involucra la preparación del soporte, la impregnación o co-impregnación del mismo y el procedimiento de postratamiento de los extruidos. Este proceso permite contar con un catalizador con potencial de aplicación en las unidades de recuperación de azufre. Las propiedades fisicoquímicas se pusieron de manifiesto de manera comparativa con el catalizador comercial fresco, en la reacción SuperClaus obteniéndose hasta un rendimiento a azufre elemental de 95 % peso con la muestra obtenida por el método de co-impregnación.
