description | The present invention refers to the development and obtention of novel electrochromic devices of variable transmission resulting from intrinsic conductive polymers and ions (polyelectrolytes) confined in a multilayer structure. These devices are able to modulate the light that passes therethrough by means of an oxide-reduction process and electron transference, which allow the transmittance level to be controlled as well as the change of colour in the material depending on the applied potential. The devices of the present invention are multilayer structures of 5 to 7 layers, which consist in a polymer layer of transparent substrate, such as: polymethacrylate, polystyrene, polycarbonate, Polyethylene terephthalate or polyolefins, a layer of an electric conductive polymer (polypirrol, polyaniline, polyacetylene, polythiophene and derivatives thereof); a layer of electronic polymer (polyethylene dioxythiophene (PEDOT), polyaniline(PANI), polypirrol (PPY), an electrolyte and/or polyelectr olyte of polymeric origin; another layer of electrochromic polymeric origin (PEDOT, PANI, POLYPIRROL) and another layer of transparent substrate, so that the device of 5 layers of conductive polymer acting as an electrochromic material and as a ion collector.
