An image converting apparatus according to the present invention includes a driving environment recognizing unit including a camera for acquiring a basic image of a lateral rear side of a vehicle and a sensing unit for sensing a lateral rear environment of the vehicle, a display unit for displaying the basic image of the lateral rear side of the vehicle, a navigation unit for providing location information of the vehicle, and a control unit for determining whether the blind spot is generated in the driving environment through information acquired from the driving environment recognizing unit and the navigation unit, generating a conversion image by converting the basic image to include the blind spot, and controlling the display unit to display the conversion image. 본 발명은 주행환경을 인식하여 사각지대가 발생하는지 여부를 판단함에 따라 표시되는 영상을 변환하여 운전자가 확인을 필요로 하는 영역을 표시하여 줌으로써 운전안정성을 향상시키는 효과를 제공한다. 본 발명의 영상변환장치는 자차량의 측후방 기본영상을 획득하는 카메라 및 상기 자차량의 측후방 환경을 센싱하는 센싱부를 포함하는 주행환경 인식부와, 상기 자차량의 측후방 기본영상을 표시하는 표시부와, 상기 자차량의 위치정보를 제공하는 네비게이션 및 상기 주행환경 인식부 및 상기 네비게이션으로부터 획득한 정보를 통하여 상기 주행환경 내 사각지대의 발생 여부를 판단하고, 상기 사각지대를 포함하도록 상기 기본영상을 변환시켜 변환영상을 생성하고, 상기 표시부에 상기 변환영상을 표시하도록 제어하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
