The mobile terminal includes: a camera; an image sensor configured to acquire an image signal of an object captured by the camera; an infrared sensor configured to detect an infrared signal reflected from the object; a controller configured to utilize the image sensor to determine whether flicker is generated and detect information related to a light source contributing to the generated flicker based on the detected infrared signal; and an image processor configured to perform white balance of the acquired image, the white balance performed based on the detected information if flicker is generated, and provides an effective white balancing method according to types of peripheral light sources through flicker analysis based on the image sensor and the infrared sensor. 본 발명에 따른 이동 단말기는, 카메라를 구비하는 이동 단말기에 있어서, 상기 카메라를 통해 촬상되는 물체의 이미지 신호를 획득하는 이미지 센서, 상기 물체로부터 반사된 적외선 신호를 검출하는 적외선 센서, 상기 이미지 센서를 이용하여 플리커(flicker)의 발생 여부를 판단하고, 상기 적외선 신호를 이용하여 상기 플리커의 발생에 기여한 광원에 대한 정보를 검출하는 제어부 및 상기 제어부에서 검출된 상기 광원에 대한 정보에 기반하여, 상기 플리커가 발생된 경우에 상기 획득된 이미지의 화이트 밸런스를 수행하는 이미지 처리부를 포함하고, 이미지 센서 및 적외선 센서에 의한 플리커 분석을 통해 주변 광원의 종류에 따른 효과적인 화이트 밸런싱 방법을 제공한다.
