description PURPOSE: A system and method for determining an approximate location of a device based on ambient signals are provided to obtain an approximate location by providing usable location inference but requiring not many number of ambient signal strengths. CONSTITUTION: A signal(110) is inputted to a signal component(108) and processed into a signal strength indicator. The signal (strength) indicator is transferred to a location acknowledge system(106). The location acknowledge system(106) processes the signal indicator and provides a corresponding location to an information component(104). The information component(104) derives relevant date by using the location. When the data is selected, it is provided as desired relative information to a user through a user interface such as GUI(Graphic User Interface) and/or text-based user interface. A component receives at least one ambient signal. A component receives at least one ambient signal. An analysis component infers at least one approximate location of a device partially based on the relative signal strength of a sub-set of the ambient signal. A location-related system uses the approximate location of the device in order to provide a function.
