An angle(γ) between the optical axis of the display element and an optical axis(b) of the observer is an acute angle, so a polarized beam splitter keeps an angle of 45° sufficiently. The prism has an incident surface(21) for transmitting the light of the display element, and first and second reflecting surfaces(22,23). The first surface forms an acute angle(α) with the incident surface and an acute angle(β) with the second reflecting surface. The light transmitted via the incident surface advances to the first reflecting surface, the light reflected from the first reflecting surface advances to the second reflecting surface, and the light reflected from the second reflecting surface is radiated to the observer.
