description | PURPOSE: Provided is a method for producing zeolite media to be used as microorganism contact media and nitrogen/heavy metal adsorbent using coal fly ash at low cost. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of pretreating coal fly ash to adjust pH thereof by inputting 100g of coal fly ash into 500g of water containing 12N-HCl; treating the resultant product of the first step using alkali (NaOH) at temperature between 80-110°C for 1-12 hours, thereby finally producing zeolite; and adding organic and inorganic binder to phillipsite based zeolite powder obtained at the second step and molding the mixture as sphere shape. The zeolite produced in accordance with the method above is used as media for adsorbing ammonium nitrogen and as microorganism contact media. |
