The present invention relates to a composition for preventing and treating depression of menopausal women including an extract of Salvia miltiorrhiza BUNGE as an active ingredient. According to the present invention, the extract of Salvia miltiorrhiza BUNGE controls secretion of luteinizing hormones and follicle stimulating hormones and increases secretion of serotonin and norepinephrine, thereby preventing, alleviating and treating a change in hormones and depression occurring after menopause. In addition, the composition containing an extract of Salvia miltiorrhiza BUNGE including danshensu as an active ingredient continuously maintains its effect during long-term storage by having excellent stability of raw materials, and thus has high industrial applicability.
